Advanced Class

Carvers will be of considerable experience and produce work of a high standard, original in their design and concept. Environments, feet and bases, if applicable, are made by the artist, (no cast legs and feet)
Work done directly from published patterns and classroom projects, is not considered original.
 

Birds of Prey

Eagles, Falcons, Owls etc.

Decorative Miniatures

These are carved with wood as the main material. They will have detailed carving, texturing, painting, and be half size or less. A live bird is the standard.

Game Birds

Grouse, Partridge, Quail etc.

Interpretive Wood Scuptures - Natural Wood

The carver has greater freedom to carve a piece in a style that is neither decorative nor decoy. Great imagination can be used - the style, character and finish are all in the hand of the carver.

Wood can be stained or varnished but retain a natural appearance.

Sea Birds and Shore Birds

Sea Birds - Gulls, Terns, Auks etc.

Shore Birds - Avocets, Sandpipers, Stilts etc.

Slick Smoothie - Shore Birds and Waders

The likeness of species and artistry, realism and creative postures are key. Decorative painting to the artist’s highest ability, translucence, shading and blending are also key. There is no burning or texturing.
